💧 Water Conservation

California's Central Valley faces ongoing drought challenges. We've invested in precision irrigation and soil monitoring to drastically reduce water consumption while maintaining yield quality.

Result: 3.2 gallons of water per pound of pistachios — 32% below the California average of 4.7 gal/lb.

☀️ Energy & Carbon

Our processing facility runs primarily on solar energy, with battery storage for overnight operations. We track Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions annually.

• Scope 1 (Direct): Natural gas for roasting → transitioning to electric roasters by 2027
• Scope 2 (Electricity): 85% solar, remainder from grid (35% renewable in CA)
• Scope 3 (Supply chain): Partnering with carbon-offset shipping carriers

♻️ Waste & Circular Economy

Pistachio farming produces significant byproducts — shells, hulls, and tree trimmings. We convert 94% of waste into valuable secondary products.

• Pistachio shells → Ground into landscaping mulch and sold to garden centers
• Hulls → Composted into organic soil amendment for orchards
• Tree trimmings → Chipped into biomass fuel for local co-generation plant
• Process water → Treated and recycled back into irrigation system
• Packaging waste → All cartons are 100% recyclable corrugated cardboard

🐝 Biodiversity & Community

Healthy orchards depend on healthy ecosystems. We maintain pollinator habitats, support local communities, and invest in agricultural education.

• Pollinator Program: 200+ bee colonies maintained across our orchards
• Cover Crops: Native wildflower strips between tree rows for beneficial insects
• Local Employment: 85% of workforce from surrounding Kern County communities
• Education: Annual scholarships for Cal Poly Ag students ($25K/year)
• Food Donations: 10,000+ lbs donated annually to Central Valley food banks
